In the late summer of 2023, the Lookout Fire destroyed two-thirds of the H.J. Andrews Experimental Forest (HJA) in Oregon, USA. The HJA contains some of the most studied hydrological research areas in the world. The dramatic fire event of 2023 provides a unique opportunity to directly study the effects of wildfires on hydrological processes. In contrast to conventional approaches, which often lack pre-fire data, the project team will be able to incorporate extensive pre-fire data collected over many years in this research forest.
