Plastics and microplastics are widely used in agriculture but represent a huge problem for the environment and potentially human health, so biodegradable alternatives are urgently needed. One promising alternative to microplastics is the use of materials based on tetraether lipids, which are exclusively produced by a group of microbes, called Archaea, that includes Sulfolobus acidocaldarius (Saci).
