Caused by new legal requirements for phosphorus recovery in Germany from 2029 onwards, approximately 500,000 tons of mineral residue are expected to accumulate annually as a by-product from the wet-chemical extraction of phosphorus from sewage sludge ash. The valorization of by-products is crucial for the financial viability of the entire phosphorus recovery process, and due to its favorable chemical properties, a usage as a supplementary cementitious material in the construction industry is conceivable.
