In the last decade cellular research has greatly expanded our understanding of mitochondria as the "The Powerhouse of the Cell" to being the coordinating center for many biosynthetic and signaling pathways. Owing to their role in many cellular processes, mitochondrial dysfunction leads to various pathophysiological conditions.
