Salmonella enterica is a highly diverse food-borne and zoonotic bacterial pathogen causing a major health concern and economic burden worldwide. In recent years, the prevalence of multi-drug resistant S. enterica strains and invasive infections in humans has been rapidly increasing, challenging the traditional preventions and treatment protocols.
