The Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) is the most frequent cause of lower respiratory tract infections among infants. The course and outcome of primary RSV infection are highly variable and the factors controlling severe disease poorly defined. A prophylactic antibody is used to protect infants at very high risk (e.g. due to pre-term birth). However, incomplete knowledge of RSV infection risk factors prevents protection of all children in need.
